Country Music Hall of Fame Member and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Merle Travis was an innovative guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, guitar designer, and author. Born in Rosewood, Kentucky, his influence (particularly his unique guitar finger-picking style widely referred to as “Travis Picking”) on many generations of performers—from Chet Atkins to Marty Stuart to Merle’s biological son, entertainer Thom Bresh and many others—is just as evident now as it has ever been.
In celebration of what would have been Travis' 100th birthday, several world-renowned guitarists, including the three living players who were assigned the designation "CGP" (Certified Guitar Player) from legendary guitarist, songwriter and record producer Chet Atkins -- Tommy Emmanuel, John Knowles, and Steve Wariner -- will gather for one very special night only and a rare appearance together on the same stage to honor Travis’ contributions to guitar and music through a series of phenomenal performances, all-star collaborations, and once-in-a-lifetime jams. For guitar lovers, this will be a bucket list moment like no other. The show will be presented by Bigsby and The GRAMMY Museum® and proceeds will benefit the Music Education Programs of The GRAMMY Museum®. Scott Goldman, Executive Director, GRAMMY Museum®, will serve as the evening’s emcee.
